Bio: Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is a longtime law enforcement advocate and has developed numerous policies to support local law enforcement and reduce crime. In 2018, as chairman of the committee, Grassley co-authored the bipartisan First Step Act, the first major criminal justice reforms in decades. He shepherded into law the Public Safety Officers’ Benefit Improvement Act, securing benefits for the families of officers who make the ultimate sacrifice for their communities, including first responders lost to COVID-19. Grassley has also consistently worked to bolster federal grant funding for law enforcement. Grassley was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1980.
